About me

Hello and welcome to my website for Green Fern Counselling.

I’m Katherine, originally from Glasgow, and now living in the beautiful Scottish Highlands. I offer counselling for anxiety in Elgin.

I gained my postgraduate qualification in Counselling and Psychotherapy from the University of Edinburgh.

My journey to become a counsellor began when I sadly and painfully lost my Mum to cancer. I felt cast adrift, and the loss of a parent brought attention to where I was going and what meaning was in my life.

I was suddenly left facing the consequences of past decisions. I realised the kind of work I had ended up in was not meaningful or satisfying, and I found myself questioning ‘was this all there was to life?’ And when exactly had I chosen this for my life?

I had met someone years before who was a psychotherapist, and I’d had no clue what went on in that world. I remained intrigued about the profession, however, and after having my own experience of therapy I realised it was what I was meant to do. And I’ve never looked back.

I have previously worked with clients through agencies and organisations in Edinburgh, Glasgow and North Lanarkshire.

I have worked with presenting issues of relationship difficulties, addiction, childhood sexual abuse, violent crime, homelessness, trauma, PTSD, and with clients in the LGBTQIA+ and GSRD community.

I have recently offered counselling with clients through Cancer Support Scotland. These are people facing cancer diagnosis, coping with cancer, life after cancer, illness, bereavement and grief, and relationship difficulties.

I am interested in working with you if you are struggling currently in a relationship, or would like support in understanding your role or place in the world or in the context of your relationships.

I work with members of the LGBTQIA+ community and Polyam+ community. I am undertaking further training in GSRD to deepen my understanding of the experiences in this community.

Book a call

I offer a 15 minute phone or video call so we can meet and see if we would be a good fit for working together. This call helps me to identify what support for you would look like. It gives you a chance to have a chat with me and ask any questions you may have about counselling and how I work.

Clients have reported that having the opportunity to meet for a no-obligation chat first helped to ease some anxiety about embarking on the counselling journey. Book here.
